The Department of Hepatology is the second in South India and the fourth in the whole of India.
DM Hepatology course (2 students per year) has been conducted since 2013.
Liver ICU established for the management of critically ill liver disease patients.
Upgraded as the “Institute of Hepato Biliary Sciences” in December 2017 to promote research aptitude and provide improved care to underprivileged patients attending OP and IP clinics at Madras Medical College.
Aims to establish itself as a future centre of excellence.
Houses a standalone IHBS Block.
Recognized as a Model Treatment Centre under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme.
Liver transplant unit initiated with the first transplant successfully performed in February 2023.
To date, 17 liver transplantations have been successfully completed.
