Launched in 2005 by the students of Madras Medical College, Genesis has evolved over nearly two decades into one of India’s most prestigious undergraduate medical conferences. What began as a student-led initiative to encourage peer learning and skill-sharing has grown into a national platform that brings together the brightest minds in medicine for an immersive, collaborative experience. It is organized under the aegis of the Academic and Scientific Committees of Madras Medical College
At its core, Genesis is driven by its flagship events — hands-on workshops, clinical case presentations, research paper and poster sessions, student symposiums, and high-intensity academic quizzes. Each activity is designed not only to challenge participants’ medical knowledge but also to sharpen critical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
The conference also stands out for its innovative and engaging formats, introducing events such as Medical Shark Tank (pitching novel healthcare solutions to a panel of experts), an intellectually stimulating Medical Debate, and a fast-paced Treasure Hunt that blends problem-solving with fun. These activities ensure that Genesis remains dynamic, inclusive, and memorable for every participant.
A defining feature of Genesis is its meticulously curated workshops. Ranging from cutting-edge procedural skills and advanced diagnostics to communication mastery and research methodology, these sessions are designed to reflect the latest advancements in medicine while retaining practical, real-world relevance.
The 2024 edition of Genesis was its most ambitious yet, welcoming over 2,000 registrations from 64 colleges across 10 states. This scale firmly established it as South India’s largest undergraduate medical conference, a title earned through consistent quality, student-driven passion, and an enduring commitment to academic and professional growth.
Milestones

Quiz
Thronus Ultimus – The Junior Quiz
Among the most awaited events of GENESIS’24, Thronus Ultimus stands tall as one of the biggest and most prestigious junior medical quizzes in the country. Designed exclusively for undergraduate MBBS students from the 1st to 3rd years, this quiz offers an intellectually charged platform that combines excitement, competition, and academic brilliance.
Covering a wide array of foundational subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Forensic Medicine, it tests the very core of medical knowledge that forms the bedrock of every doctor’s training. With a Game of Thrones-inspired theme, “Winter is Coming,” the event promises intensity and unpredictability, mirroring the challenges of medical learning itself.
The format is meticulously structured—teams of up to three battle through prelims, wild cards, and the much-anticipated finals, ensuring only the best of the best survive till the end. The rules maintain fairness and rigor: a maximum of two third-year students per team, no cross-college teams, and space for lone wolves to prove their mettle.
With questions crafted to assess not just rote memory but also application and integration across subjects, participants are compelled to think critically under pressure. The wild card round offers another chance for teams to fight their way into the finals, adding suspense and opportunity. Beyond just a quiz, Thronus Ultimus has evolved into a cultural hallmark—a stage where budding doctors measure their growing knowledge, sharpen teamwork, and experience the thrill of academic competition.
With prizes worth ₹40,000, the stakes are high, the competition fierce, and the learning invaluable. It is more than a test; it is a celebration of the journey from a novice to a confident medical learner.
Ignitia Cortica – Requiem: The Senior Quiz
If Thronus Ultimus lays the foundation, then Ignitia Cortica – Requiem represents the grand culmination of medical quizzing at GENESIS’24. Widely regarded as one of the most competitive senior-level medical quizzes in India, it brings together participants from across the country to face the ultimate test of medical mastery.
Unlike the junior quiz, which focuses on pre- and paraclinical sciences, Ignitia Cortica spans the entire breadth of medicine—covering all 19 subjects, from the basics of Anatomy to the intricacies of Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Dermatology, and beyond.
It is open to MBBS students from the 1st year right up to interns, making it a truly comprehensive battle of intellect across levels of experience. The format mirrors the rigor of real clinical practice, blending case-based challenges, diagnostic reasoning, and subject integration, ensuring participants demonstrate not only factual recall but also clinical acumen. Teams of three lock horns in intense prelims, wild card play-offs, and the high-stakes finals, with only the sharpest minds earning a place on the podium.
To maintain balance, each team is capped at a maximum of two interns, ensuring fair competition between juniors and seniors. The sheer scale of participation, combined with the promise of prizes worth ₹45,000, makes this quiz a magnet for the brightest minds across India. But beyond material rewards, Ignitia Cortica offers something far more enduring—the chance to push intellectual boundaries, to celebrate the diversity of medical knowledge, and to experience the thrill of working against time and uncertainty, just as in real clinical settings.
For participants, it is not merely a competition but a rite of passage, a testament to their journey through the labyrinth of medical education. By the end, every contender, whether victor or not, emerges enriched, sharper, and more inspired.
Combined, these two quizzes showcase the spectrum of medical education—from mastering the preclinical and paraclinical sciences to integrating and applying knowledge across all disciplines. They don’t just crown winners; they cultivate thinkers, problem-solvers, and future leaders in medicine.
